I. I’m in favour of social networks but some limits should be established.
To me, social networks are both useful and dangerous, that’s the truth. For example, virtual friendships. I’m not against virtual friends, I just think that we should impose some limits, like in the exchange of personal information as we consider these people as friends or even something more than that. In my opinion, this is irresponsible from each one of us, because one never knows who is on the other side, except when it is clear, by web camera, that we are really looking at each other, which does not imply that videos are already made and are just simply passing at the moment, but I still think that to have eye contact with the person, is always less dangerous than the virtual exchange of texts and information.
Another theme that is really important these days is information. There is a lot of information on the Internet, no doubt, but when does it imply that quantity means quality?! It doesn’t. Just looking for information, doesn’t mean that we can acquire certain knowledge. If that is true, then why would we go to school, come face to face with a teacher when we could have classes through the web?
Is it the same? Could we get the knowledge, could we learn without having real contact with the teacher? I don’t think so.
It is not enough either, to write in a search engine the word we are looking for, because thousands of pages will appear in many different sites and often that won’t give us the information required.
We should not search at random because that won’t provide the knowledge we want, We must have some knowledge to know how, where and what to search.
And what about information,? Could we talk about the consuming and the sharing?
Consuming is taking or even receiving, basically it is using the privileges, the advantages of the Internet, such as videos, music, images, documents, programs (…). Sharing is giving and receiving, so sharing is when we create, for example a video, or even a program, and it will probably be helpful to the others, just the way we consume what others give us.
So, I know that social networks have some drawbacks, including some of those I mentioned before. I also know that we must take responsibility for our actions, but we must not forget that people are different from each other.
In spite of contributing to the development and growth of our society they have some bugs we must be aware of.
In my opinion, the social networks bring both benefits and drawbacks.

II. The social networks (like facebook, twitter and Myspace) increase the social relations and amplify the possibility of new friendships, because there are no frontiers of space and time. Any time we can communicate with any part of the world, exchange information, share music, videos, pictures, photos, etc.
In a certain way, it makes us more informed and educated people, because we can have access to any information.
Most of the times, the social networks are used as an “escape” for low self-esteem people. These people may feel better when they talk with strangers about their own problems, without having to expose themselves completely.
The social networks allow us too to express opinions on the most diverse topics, being an “open space” for debates. Through facebook, for example, we can have access to several online-games that can help people to think and act faster.
In educational settings, the social networks allow teachers and students the possibility of keeping contact. They help to promote educational sites and blogs as well as students’ works, then they can be seen by a broad group of people.
Social networks also provide disclosure of business, curricula, and possible job opportunities, which in my opinion can be very useful.
Although social networks have some benefits, they can also have some negative aspects. More and more, the amount of time people, not just young people but also adults, spend on internet is increasing. People are failing to give value to personal relationships, and tend to isolate themselves because of the addiction that social networks can cause. Another disadvantage of the social networks is the violation of privacy. Once published, personal statements become visible to all. There are always nasty individuals who give rise to unwanted and potentially dangerous situations, after a visit to a personal profile on facebook, or hi5, for example. There are even cases of missing youngsters and murders due to people’s carelessness.
In my opinion it is important that each person is aware of the possible dangers and feel responsible for the information that he or she publishes.

III. I totally agree with the use of the social networks because they help with the communication between the people and help too with the information sharing about a wide range of subjects. However, we have to be aware that the social networks are dangerous and, so, their use has to be conscious and responsible.
The social networks have big advantages in the communication, like: curriculum avertising, job opportunities, find old friends, business, etc. So, in spite of being considered futile because of the way some people use them, they are a big and important information source.
Nowadays, there are big unemployment rates in our society that lead the people to search new solutions whatever available ways. The social networks appear here with as a main role in the divulgation, not only curriculum’s divulgation, but also of the work opportunities and business promotion.
However, although the social networks have a very important role in the society, they are very dangerous, so, they have to be carefully used.
Statistics prove that millions of young people, many times under ten or eleven years old, expose themselves daily on the internet in a very careless way. More seriously than that, sometimes they expose their family and friend’s privacy, revealing important information like address, school, and others. So, people have to be conscious and appeal/inform the young of the risks of what they’re doing.
Other important feature is the existence of virtual friends that, in my perspective, in spite of the dangers, they are a way to know other societies, cultures and habits from all over the world.
So, in my opinion, the social networks are very important and useful for all of us, once everyone use them correctly.

So what’s finally, in your opinion, more impressive about social networks?
– the amount and availability of information or the excess, inaccuracy of it?
– is it learning (knowledge) just getting lots of information?
– are social networks wonderful means that gives everyone total freedom to express oneself or dangerous means for one to expose one’s intimacy?
– can we find real friends on virtual world?
